Clash of Empires

Since the earliest settlements in North America, European powers developed spheres of influence in the New World that would inevitably lead to open hostility.  But this struggle wasn't limited to the new comers.  As the native peoples became more dependent on their European trading partners, they formed alliances with the "Great Fathers" that drew them into these conflicts.  The battles of the 1750's and 60's became known as the French and Indian Wars in North America and the Seven Years War in Europe.  A short period of peace gave way to to revolution and the emergence of the United States in the 1770's and 80's.  The opening up of new territories in the Old Northwest by the young republic assured the continuation of conflict between new generations of Native Americans and Europeans ending in an uneasy peace in 1794.
